The 2009 Wild, Wild West Shop Hop
Quilt Design Contest
We are excited to announce a quilt design contest. Designers should submit an original quilt design consisting of 12 (12.5 inch-unfinished) blocks and block settings which should be traditional in design and beginner or intermediate in difficulty levels. The blocks may be pieced, appliquéd or a combination of these techniques. This contest is open to anyone who wishes to enter. Entries may be the work of one or more people; credit must be given to all participants. Only one design may be submitted per person or group-and only one prize will be given.
The quilt design must be original and have been made in the last year (2008). It must be submitted in a professional, easy to reproduce format that includes concise and accurate cutting and sewing instructions. Each of the 12 blocks with directions must fit on a single 8.5 inch by 11 inch page-a clear picture of the block must be at the top of each block page. There needs to be a page of finishing directions. The designer should utilize a generic focus fabric and 3-5 coordinating fabrics (do not pick a specific fabric line; fabric for the quilts will be selected by the shops participating in the W.W.W.S.H. AFTER the winning quilt design has been chosen).
Judging of designs will take place at a W.W.W.S.H. meeting held in October 2008; all shops present at that meeting will have ONE vote. Decisions made at that meeting will be final. Two alternate winning designs will be chosen at that meeting in case there are unexpected problems. The winning designer will be announced in January of 2009 on the W.W.W.S.H. webpage.
Entry into this competition automatically grants copyright permission for the image of this quilt and these quilt blocks and the creation of these blocks and quilts using these designs exclusively to the quilt shops who are members of the W.W.W.S.H. Slight changes of the blocks or the quilt setting may be made by shop owners. During the 2009 W.W.W.S.H. the quilts will be displayed at each shop with the name of the winning designer. The designer understands that free patterns will be given to Shop Hop participants and that kits using these blocks and finishing kits for each shop quilt will be sold during and after the 2009 Shop Hop. The quilts will be displayed on participating W.W.W.S.H. shop websites with the winning designer's name.
The winner of the W.W.W.S.H. design contest will receive a $50.00 gift certificate to each participating shop and will have the opportunity to showcase design talents at these shops and on their websites.

I understand that judging of the submitted designs will be done by the quilt shops participating in the 2009 Wild, Wild West Shop Hop; the decision will be final, with two alternate quilt designs chosen to use in the event that a problem occurs with the winning quilt. The winner of this competition grants copyright permission exclusively to the shops participating in the 2009 W.W.W.S.H. for the year following the 2009 shop hop, understanding that slight changes may be made in the quilt and block designs, free patterns will be given out by shops, kits for blocks and finishing kits will be sold by shops and quilts using these blocks will be displayed at each shop, on shop websites, and on the Wild, Wild West Shop Hop Website-along with the winning designer's name.
